Sleep is an issue in our household.

I struggle to turn off my brain at night and my two year old gets more innovative in stalling bed time every night.

I found something that works for our family and it’s super affordable, easy to make, and safe (so long as you dilute properly). I’m not here to peddle essential oils to you (there are enough internet savvy ladies doing that) BUT they do have a place in my life and I find them effective for some purposes.

This do-it-yourself toddler sleepy potion is considered kid safe as long as you use the exact oils I have mentioned. Plant Therapy is my go to essential oil brand because of their Kid Safe lines. Did you know not all oils are safe for children? Since I have a young child at home I find all my oils in Plant Therapy’s Kid Safe line to avoid any issues and save time. Please note, no essential oils should be used near or on infants less than 6 months of age.

Since you’re here, I know you’ve been scouring the internet for magical baby/toddler sleep potions; I know you’re exhausted and don’t know what day of the week it is so let’s get to it!

Plant Therapy has everything you need for my DIY Sleepy Roller Bottle with FREE shipping on every order.

I am most comfortable using a 2% dilution on children. I could use a stronger concentration of oils but because this is a mixture I use on my child every day, I have decided to keep the blend at 2%. As with anything, discontinue use if adverse reactions occur.

Caution: Never use undiluted essential oils on skin. Doing so could result in burns and irritation. Essential oils are natural but extremely strong.

To mix your sleepy potion to a 2% concentration use the following quantities:

  • 10 mL or 2 tsp of carrier oil
  • 2 drops frankincense essential oil
  • 2 drops lavender essential oil

DIY Frankincense and Lavender Sleepy Roller Bottle for Toddlers

Yields1 Serving
Total Time5 mins

2 tsp Fractionated Coconut Oil (or any other carrier oil like jojoba, almond, or avocado)
2 drops Lavender Essential Oil (Kid Safe)
2 drops Frankincense Frereana Essential Oil (Kid Safe)
1 10mL Glass Roller Bottle for Essential Oils/Perfumes

1

Measure 2 tsps (10mL) of fractionated coconut oil or preferred carrier oil in a small container. I prefer a liquid medicine cup because I can easily squeeze the cup to pour the mixture into my roller ball.

2

Add 2 drops of each essential oil (Frankincense Frereana + Lavender) to the fractionated coconut oil (or preferred carrier oil).

3

Mix well.

4

Pour mixture into roller ball container and insert roller ball.

FAQ:

Do I have to use a roller ball?

No, but I have found it’s the easiest way to apply the sleepy potion to unwilling participants.

How do you know it works?

My 2 year old runs away when he sees us get the sleepy roller. His mission in life is to avoid sleep. He’s got some major FOMO (fear of missing out) we need to work on.

What’s it smell like?

Most of us know what lavender smells like but frankincense has a pleasant, slightly woodsy aroma that pairs nicely with lavender. If this blend didn’t make tired or I didn’t associate it with sleep I’d wear it as perfume. I once saw a blogger say if frankincense was good enough for baby Jesus, it was good enough for her. I’ll second that 😂.

How long does a roller last?

We use our roller for every nap and every night (so twice a day) and apply it to myself, my husband, and our 2 year old. The 10mL mixture lasts about 45 days for us.

Since you’re only using 2 drops per oil, I imagine a 10mL bottle of essential oil could last you until your bright eyed toddler becomes a teenager and you’re searching for wake up before noon potions.

Where do you apply the sleepy mixture?

I apply the sleepy potion to mine and my husband’s arms and chest to give every chance for our son to get a whiff while he falls asleep in our arms

For my toddler, I apply a drop behind each ear, a swipe on his chest, and to the soles of his feet.

Where do you get your essential oils?

I order from Plant Therapy. I like their transparency, customer service (they sent me a free coffee EO when I asked about how to make pumpkin spice latte blends. Whaaat!), and they’re always running promotions. Plus I don’t have to go through a middle man, I can just order online whenever I want.

Where did you get your label?

I made it with my
Cricut Explore Air™ 2 machine  and they
are $70 off right now!

Where can I get those frosted black and gold roller bottles?

On Amazon!
